What is the Guaranteed Ride Home program?

Woman in business attire sitting outside office building writing in notebook. The Metropolitan Washington Council of Government's (MWCOG) Commuter Connections has created the Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) program to provide commuters who regularly vanpool, carpool, bike, walk, or take transit, with a reliable ride home when one of life's unexpected emergencies arises. Commuters can use free GRH for personal emergencies and unscheduled overtime up to four times per year. Best of all, the ride home by cab, rental car, bus or train is free (excluding gratuity, fuel and insurance charges). As an added benefit to your employees, you can provide your own GRH program to supplement MWCOG's program.

What are the benefits of a Guaranteed Ride Home program?

Imagine a crisis has just occurred, requiring an emergency meeting, and it's 4:45 in the afternoon. Unfortunately, the key employee to the situation cannot attend the emergency meeting because her carpool leaves at 5:00 and she has no other way to get home. What do you do? The GRH program was created for situations just like this one, and can help employers maintain productivity, increase morale, and continue the flow of business.

Also, offering a GRH program encourages employees to use alternative forms of commuting, such as carpooling and vanpooling, by giving them the peace of mind of knowing they have a way to get home if an emergency situation arises.
